Boy, 18, Allegedly Abducted Girl, 17, Outside Her School and Forced Her into Vehicle Because He Wanted to ‘Marry’ Her

A terrifying morning drop-off at a Melbourne high school has culminated in a high-stakes criminal case, exposing a shocking alleged plot to kidnap a 17-year-old schoolgirl and force her into an unwanted marriage.

An 18-year-old man has faced court after executing the brazen daylight abduction right outside the school gates. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlights a disturbing intersection of youth crime, flagrant bail breaches, and archaic motives playing out on modern suburban streets.

An Ambush at the School Gates

The nightmare unfolded at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 26, outside Keysborough Secondary College in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs. The 17-year-old victim was walking toward the campus entrance, preparing for a normal day of classes, when she was suddenly approached by a male suspect.

Within moments, the encounter turned violent. The suspect physically overpowered the teenager, forcing her into a waiting vehicle against her will before the driver slammed on the gas and sped away from the scene.

Following an intense, multi-day investigation, police tracked down and arrested 18-year-old Ayom Deng at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1. Authorities allege that Deng was the individual behind the wheel during the high-speed getaway—and that he was already out on bail for prior offenses when the abduction took place.

A Shocking Motive Laid Bare in Court

Deng was rushed to the Melbourne Magistrates Court just hours after his arrest, where prosecutors unveiled a deeply unsettling charge sheet.

According to official court documents obtained by major local outlets including Nine News, the Sydney Morning Herald, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Deng has been formally charged with abducting the teenage girl “with the intent of marrying [her]… without her consent.” Additional filings obtained by The Canberra Times confirm he faces heavy charges for detaining the minor completely against her will.

In total, the 18-year-old faces a sweeping sheet of indictments:

  • Abduction and Kidnapping

  • False Imprisonment

  • Committing an indictable offense while on bail

  • Driving on a highway without a driver’s license or permit

During the swift arraignment, Deng’s defense attorney sought to paint a picture of a troubled and exposed young man, revealing that the teenager had previously been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The lawyer argued that Deng’s age and physical appearance left him highly vulnerable, while also conceding to the court that this was far from the first time his client had landed behind bars.

Knowing the severity of the allegations and his client’s precarious legal standing, the defense chose not to apply for bail. The magistrate officially remanded Deng in custody, ordering him to remain imprisoned until his next scheduled court appearance in September.

A Co-Conspirator in Children’s Court

Deng did not act alone in the schoolyard ambush. Detectives confirmed that a 15-year-old boy has also been swept up in the investigation and formally charged with abduction. Due to his status as a minor, the younger teenager’s identity remains heavily protected by law, and his case will be adjudicated separately within the closed doors of a children’s court at a later date.

As the legal machinery begins to grind forward, the institutions involved are maintaining a tight lid on the finer details of the rescue and the victim’s current welfare. The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria has yet to release further administrative details, and Victoria Police have stated they are legally unable to comment on the active, sensitive investigation.

Yet, as a community grapples with the sheer audacity of a daylight kidnapping at a school gate, the upcoming September trial promises to shine a harsh spotlight on the dark reality of forced marriage plots operating right under the public’s nose.
