Family of Brit influencer, 23, facing execution by firing squad in Dubai reveals distressing details

What began as an idyllic romance under the gleaming lights of Dubai has devolved into a harrowing legal nightmare for a 23-year-old British TikTok influencer. Brooke George, a digital content creator from Gravesend, Kent, currently sits behind bars in the notorious Bur Dubai jail, facing the grim prospect of execution by firing squad.

Charged with the premeditated murder of her 26-year-old boyfriend, Bill Treeby, George’s case has ignited an international outcry. While prosecutors paint a picture of a calculated crime, George’s family and legal advocates tell a vastly different story: one of severe domestic abuse, psychological entrapment, and a desperate, blood-soaked act of self-defense.

From Fairytale to Nightmare

According to family reports, George initially traveled to the United Arab Emirates after developing an online relationship with Treeby. Her first taste of the luxury expatriate lifestyle was intoxicating; she enthusiastically messaged her family, describing the trip as “the time of my life.”

However, that illusion quickly shattered during her second visit. Investigators were told that Treeby’s demeanor altered almost immediately upon her return to Dubai, shifting from a doting partner into an increasingly hostile, controlling, and abusive figure.

Radha Stirling, the CEO of the criminal justice advocacy group Detained in Dubai, has taken up George’s defense. According to Stirling, the young influencer was actively planning her escape from both the country and her boyfriend’s escalating violence just hours before the fatal confrontation.

The Fatal Confrontation: A Timeline of Terror

The events leading up to the tragedy paint a chaotic picture of a young woman trapped in a foreign jurisdiction with dwindling options. According to advocacy statements, the final dispute unfolded rapidly:

  • The Trap Discovered: George allegedly realized the gravity of her situation when she discovered Treeby had only booked her a one-way ticket to Dubai, leaving her effectively stranded without a return route.

  • The Initial Assault: Later that day, an intoxicated Treeby reportedly launched a physical assault against George, a beating that began in public and continued relentlessly once they returned to their apartment.

  • The Flight Log: In a state of sheer panic, George contacted her family and friends back in the UK. Desperate to flee the country, her friends helped her coordinate and book a flight home.

  • The Search for the Passport: George returned to the apartment with a singular, vital mission: to retrieve her passport. Upon arrival, she found her personal belongings aggressively scattered across the rooms.

  • The Flashpoint: As George wept and begged for her documentation, Treeby allegedly attacked her again, punching her squarely in the face. Fearing for her life and cornered in the room, George grabbed a nearby kitchen knife and struck Treeby. He died from the resulting stab wounds.

On June 22, as George attempted to board her hard-won flight back to the United Kingdom at Dubai International Airport, authorities intercepted and arrested her.

A Mother’s Witness to the Trauma

Back home in Kent, the influencer’s mother, Thereza George, has been left shattered by the unfolding events. She noted that she could sense a distinct, troubling shift in her daughter’s personality during the second trip, describing her as uncharacteristically quiet and withdrawn.

The true horror, however, manifested in the immediate aftermath of the stabbing.

“When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified,” Thereza George shared in a statement. “I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably. I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close. As Brooke’s mother, I am deeply concerned for her welfare. I firmly believe she was desperately trying to get home and away from whatever had happened to her.”

The Looming Shadow of the Firing Squad

The stakes for the young British national could not be higher. In the UAE, a conviction of premeditated murder carries a maximum penalty of death—traditionally carried out by a firing squad.

The severity of the situation is something Radha Stirling knows intimately. Sharing her profound anxiety over the case on the social media platform X, Stirling recalled a haunting encounter from her past work in the region.

“I was the last person to speak to a man in the UAE before he was executed by firing squad,” Stirling wrote. “We spoke just 30 minutes before he was killed. I have never forgotten that conversation or the unfair justice system that killed him. That is why Brooke George’s case terrifies me.”

A Darker Pattern in the City of Gold

As Detained in Dubai mobilizes to ensure George receives a fair and impartial trial, Stirling points out that this tragedy spotlights a broader, deeply disturbing trend impacting young, vulnerable women abroad.

In recent years, an increasing number of social media influencers, models, and young tourists have reportedly been lured to Dubai under the guise of lavish holidays, lucrative modeling contracts, or whirlwind romances. Once isolated from their support networks, many allege they are subjected to coercion, degrading treatment, extreme violence, and sexual exploitation.

In George’s case, there are signs of an even darker undercurrent. Friends indicate she may have been targeted under similar false pretenses, with Stirling noting that George reported discovering highly disturbing videos on Treeby’s computer shortly before the fatal fight.

The defense organization is now formally urging UAE authorities to preserve and thoroughly examine all digital footprint data—including mobile phones, computers, and online communications belonging to the deceased—to determine if George was the victim of an organized exploitation ring. For now, a young woman’s life hangs in the balance as an uncompromising foreign legal system prepares to decide her fate.
