Corinne Caruana, 36, was visiting a McDonald’s location in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, with her children when the incident unfolded. After placing her order, she stepped over to the condiment counter to grab some ketchup for a box of chicken nuggets—a routine action millions of parents perform every single day.
Instead, a subtle flicker of motion near the pump nozzle stopped her in her tracks.
“I thought I was imagining it at first,” Caruana recalled. “That’s when I realized something was crawling inside the dispenser.”
Worms in the Nozzle: A Video That Horrified the Web
Looking closer, Caruana made a horrifying discovery: tiny, live larvae were writhing near the tip of the ketchup dispenser.
Before taking action, she quickly warned another customer who was actively reaching for the same pump. The woman immediately recoiled in disgust and backed away from the station.
Caruana pulled out her phone to record video evidence of the situation. The resulting footage appears to show live maggots moving around the mouth of the nozzle. According to Caruana, the infestation wasn’t isolated to the exterior spout—she claimed the insects were visible along the entire length of the internal tubing connected to the ketchup reservoir.
After uploading the clip online, the video spread like wildfire across social media platforms, sparking a wave of collective outrage and disgust among thousands of viewers.

McDonald’s Responds: Equipment Pulled and Investigation Launched
Faced with mounting public scrutiny, corporate representatives for McDonald’s issued a statement re-asserting that food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness remain foundational priorities for the global brand.
The fast-food giant expressed that it was “extremely disappointed” by the reported incident in Letchworth, confirming that restaurant staff acted immediately once alerted:

“I was completely horrified,” Caruana said. “I was there with my children, and the thought that someone could have used that dispenser without noticing is what really concerned me. For me, it’s not just about the ketchup—it’s about trusting that the food and everything around it is being kept clean and safe for families.”
